Motown Museum
2648 West Grand Boulevard, Detroit MI
Hitsville is a must-visit destination for anybody looking to take in a bit of Detroit history. This home is the original meeting spot of Berry Gordy and all of his talented artists. This is where artists such as Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, Dianna Ross, and the Jackson 5 recorded music. Inside you can peruse costumes, photos, and other memorabilia from the doo-wop period.
Greenfield Village
20900 Oakwood Boulevard, Dearborn, MI
Greenfield Village is somewhere you can easily spend hours, especially if you bring along children. There are several different historic districts in this working village, and you'll learn a lot about how things were accomplished prior to modern machinery. Many people refer to it as a living museum. It's fun to watch the artisans demonstrate blacksmithing, glass blowing and more.
Historic Fort Wayne
6325 W Jefferson Avenue, Detroit MI
This mid-1800s fort spans over 80 acres! It was used as an induction center for military members throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Many of the old barracks have never been remodeled, so it's really a blast from the past. The Historic Fort Wayne Coalition has done a great job restoring the site! There are guided tours that are around five dollars per person, but admission is free.
Ford Piquette Avenue Plant
461 Piquette St, Detroit MI
Detroit is known around the world for starting the age of automobiles. Come visit where it all began! This is the original Model T factory, and it stands almost unchanged from when it was in use.
